IORG sees the role of the International Advisory Board (IAB) primarily as providing:
- Independent advice to the research network on the nature of the research being undertaken.
- Suggestions on the kinds of research issues and activities which might best serve the goals of the IORG.
- An evaluation of the activities of the IORG after five years of operation.
- A sounding board for research ideas and initiatives at their formulation stage.
- Advice on potential funding sources for IORG activities.
