Indian Ocean Survey is published by the Indian Ocean Research Group twice a year, in January and July. The journal encourages critical examination of issues of contemporary concern to the countries and communities of Indian Ocean region. It particularly endeavours to involve a wider community of scholars from within the Indian region and outside. Maritime issues such as sea law, resource sharing, eco conservation, coastal management, security, regional cooperation and interstate relations constitute the major but not necessarily exclusive focus of the journal.
Policy: It is the objective of the journal to encourage interdisciplinary research on issues of contemporary relevance to the countries and communities of Indian Ocean. Major ocean affairs such as resource sharing and conservation, coastal management, ocean laws, maritime security, regional trade and cooperation, and interstate relations constitute the substantive but not necessarily exclusive contents of the journal. Apart from researched articles, brief commentaries, reviews and survey of major developments in the Indian Ocean Region are carried by the journal.
Objectives:
- To encourage research on the geopolitical, economic, socio-cultural, science and technological issues relevant to Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
- To promote dialogue on the peaceful uses and ecologically sustainable development of maritime resources based on the principle of Common Heritage.
- To foster interstate cooperation in sustainable management of ocean resources and peaceful settlement of maritime disputes.
- To ensure a holistic discourse on security of the sea among its states, people and communities
- To facilitate information and debate on the international maritime laws and rights of the states and communities representing IOR.
- To initiate policy-oriented dialogue among governments, NGOs, business groups and other stakeholders or the IOR.
